I got a PM request for the procedure to rewire the passing lamps to be independent of the headlamp function so I'm going to post it for anyone to use .
The passing lamps get power from the second Y ( yellow ) wire at the headlamp connect , we'll be cutting that Y wire and splicing it to the O/W HDI wire that's taped to the headlight harness . The O/W wire has a female spade connect , is fused and has power whenever the ignition is on .
Disconnect the battery pos. cable or remove the Maxi-fuse then lay a towel on the front fender and remove the outer fairing and windshield and disconnect the headlamp connector . Lay the fairing and windshield off to the side to avoid scratches .
Now swing the front forks all the way left and reach up under the right switch panel and locate connector #105 , a 12 place Multilock , and pull it down far enough to disconnect it . Locate the Y wire at pin 6 in the forward connector half , this will be the test point .
Now go to the headlamp connector and determine which of the two Y wires go to the #105 panel connector pin 6 . I push a pin through the wires and test for continuity with an Ohmeter . You want to figure out which Y wire goes to Y pin 6 at the panel connector .
That Y wire gets cut and stripped at the end and a male spade the correct size gets crimped to it , it then gets plugged into the O/W wire connect . Place a piece of shrink tube on before plugging them together then shrink it once plugged together , that'll prevent any shorts or from pulling apart .
Go back and plug the #105 panel connects back together and stuff it back up under the switch panel then loosely install the outer fairing with the headlamp plugged in , reconnect the battery or plug the Maxi-fuse back in and test all light functions . The passing lamps should now function independently of the headlamp and no fuses should blow . If the passing lamps don't light check the fuses .
Reinstall the fairing and windshield and you're ready to go ! :thumbsup
